"Tarot", is the name of an interactive computer work, which I created and I am using in order to reconstruct storytelling – using the aesthetic vision of interactive Multimedia.
In this work the user has the ability to place three Tarot cards in three different positions suggested as past – present – future. The user picks the card out of a pack in which, he led to believe- each card represents a different value. When finished, the user views a sequence of 3 video clips replacing each card. On each video a person gives a statement regarding the topic of the card, such as death, nightmare, changes in life etc.  When the sequence is finished, the user may choose 3 more cards. This is a simple example for a linear story created out of random choices.

The Tarot deck is a remnant from this ancient world of storytelling. When the cards are spread before the reader, s/he creates the story and unfolds it in ways that have been used countless times before.
A good story telling, or in this case Tarot reading, will give the listener the feeling the story was made for her/him, after all, s/he was the one who chose the cards.
I use “Tarot” as a device that has the potential to become a storytelling tool.
Italo Calvino, in “The Castle of Crossed Destinies” created a similarity experience by writing his story through several spreads of tarot cards.
“This book was first made of pictures – The tarot playing cards – and secondly of written words… I began by trying to line up tarots as random; to see if I can read a story in them. “The Waverer’s Tale” emerged… I looked for other combinations of the same cards; I realized the tarot were machine for constructing stories…”

In my work I use the interactive mechanism of multimedia to create a feeling of a relationship between the storyteller (the artist) with the viewer, who is redefined as a "user" as soon as s/he enters the work.
This "user" intuatively walks through this Cyberstory, breaking all linear narrative and thus claiming maximum control. The user's potential reaction is part of the story. Being the storyteller, I can challenge or even provoke the "user" control.

C-Pur

The Hebrew word for story, which is ‘Cipur’, contains the word Pur within it that means lottery or Chance, like in the name of the Jewish holiday Purim: the Name of the holiday is based upon the word pur.
I like the connection of Pur and Cipur- describing the ‘risks’ the users taking by choosing the paths in the story: the risk of rejection, the chance the user take of loosing control over the story.
